It was gut wrenching to return Phoebe. I didn’t realize how much I had bonded with her. When I was walking past the cage on our way out of the shelter, she put her paw out to touch me. I still get choked up when I think about that.
We took one back, and brought two home. I think we’ve landed on names – Yum Yum and Wu Wu, both of which are tropical drinks (and quite yummy sounding ones!) They are sisters. Very soft furry kittens, about 6-7 months old. They are gray tabbyish with some calico markings. Very Very cute.
We had to borrow a carrier from the shelter to bring them both home. We took it back yesterday, along with all of the special food Phoebe was on, as well as some food that I had left over from Sheba. We went to say hello to Pheobe. She glared at us (and everyone else for that matter). She was really unhappy to be in that cage. I wish is could have been different, but I suspect she has more wrong that we even realize.
Champagne has started eating again. She nibbles her dry when she wants it and eats at least some of the wet before the others hoover it up. The new nuts are fitting in and giving Margarita someone to play with. There were some hisses the first day, and the second day and probably a little bit this morning, but by this afternoon they were playing together. Right now Yum Yum is sleeping in the tree behind me. I don’t know where the others are. Champagne is probably on the bed with Jeff. I’ll have to go on a cat count soon.
So far there are no sneezes, no watery eyes. There has been one not so small ‘accident’, but I can attribute that to stress and newness since I haven’t seen any evidence of something like that happening again. Obviously I’m a little sensitive to their bathroom habits right now, given the experience with Phoebe and I will be starting their dietary changes slowly. As soon as I get their paperwork, they’ll be going to the vet for their ‘well kitty’ visit and any boosters they may need.
Even with the experience with Pheobe, I still admire the dedication Inga and her volunteers have to the cats. They are shelter kitties and she does the best she can do with them. It still amazes me how clean the place is. I wish she could place some of the older kitties in there. She has some very sweet ones. I wish I could take more, but 4 is my limit. If the market ever returns and we can sell this house, trying a rent an apartment until we find something to buy may be a challenge!
Time to do a cat count and snuggle into bed for some reading.
