Whole Foods

Wow - I went to the Whole Foods that opened in PBG. That place is like a toy store for food junkies. While primarily organic foods, they have great cheese and other more gourmet foods that I can’t find at my neighborhood Publix. I went for the produce and my the produce that they had! I haven’t seen the variety of lettuce since I left Pittsburgh. I don’t understand why I can’t find decent lettuce at Publix. Maybe I do need to switch grocery stores.

Anyway, I digress. We bought some meat, bread, produce; I found clotted cream (today I’m having scones and tea). I found bulger and barley. They had vanilla beans! Amazing! Now I just need to find the recipes that I had given up as not ever being able to make because I couldn’t find vanilla bean. I could have spent hours looking at each and every item they had. I just wish the prices weren’t so high. Trying to eat well is expensive. It’s much cheaper to buy the processes foods that aren’t good for you. I do have to say the quality is much better. The steak I had last night was as good as I could have in my favorite steak house.
I must research to see if there are other gourmet grocery stores in this area. I generally hate grocery shopping, but the trip was actually fun.

Fitness Update

I was going to work out today, but mowing the grass really kicked my butt. I still have a headache from getting overheated and hitting my head. I’m going to start tomorrow with the better eating, tracking, and working out. I’m going to Orlando for training this week and my goal is going to be to keep it up and eat correctly.

Today’s weight: 257

I am taking my vitamins. I like those viactive. They are easier to take and I don’t scrunch my nose up when having to swallow them! I’m going to log my food and fitness at the bally site, so these may become more sparse.

Where is there a cop when you need one?

Today there happened to be one in front of me!!

I was coming back from lunch. After the light turned green, a very impatient woman in a BMW blew around me before the lane even became a lane. A turn onto Northlake found her only right in front of me (so going a whole lotta fast to get no place). In front of her was a Florida State Trooper. Now i’m just following traffic, thinking about how much money we’d need to save for vacation. There are cars in the right lane, going the speed limit, but not much more. The State Trooper was doing about the same in the left. He starts slowing down and the beemer gets closer to him.

With no one in front of him or beside him, he moves over, quite rapidly, to the right lane, and turns on his lights. i’m not quite sure what’s going on, so I slow down a little more, as do the cars around me. This leaves even more of a gap between me and the beemer in front of me. Mr. State Trooper cuts me off to get behind her, lights still going. Yes, he pulls her over, probably for tailgating. I laughed all the way home.

Hold that thought, I have to go to the bathroom

Rants No Comments

While I was waiting for my flight on Thursday, i picked up a copy of the NY Times that had been left on the seat beside me. There was an article that is strange on so many levels that it had to find its way into a blog someplace. It may as well be mine!

The article talks about how the bathroom is becoming the new den (brown is the new black and size 2 is the new 4 or whatever that quote was from the Devil Wears Prada - but I digress). So yes, back to the new den. The article details how designers are creating these huge bathrooms because that’s the only time couples have to talk in their uber-busy days. They will have ‘morning kitchens’ (a mini-fridge and a coffee maker) or couples will enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day.  So here’s where I have an issue with this whole thing - if you are sooooo busy that the only time you have to talk to your spouse is when you are both getting ready in the morning, maybe you are to busy! Spend a little less time at the office, take a vacation, what are you doing on the weekend anyway?

One couple has taken to eating breakfast in the bathroom - EATING BREAKFAST? How long does it take you to get ready in the morning that you’re eating breakfast in the bathroom? I can go from fast asleep to ready to walk out the door in about 30 minutes - that includes drying my hair, putting on my make-up (yes, in the house, not the car) and getting dressed. The hubster can do it even faster.  In my case, hubster gets up at 5:15am and no matter how busy our lives are, I am not crawling my butt out of bed to chat with him in the bathroom. Neither one of us are civil enough to want to talk at that hour!

Another couple has a soaking tub where they enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day while soaking with each other.  Now that sounds relaxing - install a hot tub. But one couple in the article needs their bathroom to have some alone time from their ‘frequent houseguests’ - first, usually you want to visit with your houseguests, but if you have that many that you feel the need to get away from them - STOP INVITING THEM! They need your permission to enter the home, so just don’t let them come.

I just don’t understand this trend. My last couple of weeks at work have been busy - I’ve been putting in 80 hour weeks and working on weekends, but yet I still find time to spend with the hubster. But not in the bathroom. These are probably the same people that over-schedule their kids to the point that they don’t know which end is up and no one has any time to just be them.  I’d like to know what these people do.

I have so much to say……

people watching No Comments

……On so many different topics that I don’t even know where to start.

I got back from Houston early Friday morning (oh, like 1am Friday morning), after spending most of the day in the airport. I hate delayed flights. Anyway, being in the airport is a great way to people watch.  People are crazy. I’m sitting near the people mover. There is a family, mommy, daddy, little girl. The daddy was pushing the luggage cart, while holding onto the harness that attachd the little girl (loved the harness - it looked like a backpack with a monkey on it - what a great idea).

The mother was talking on her cell phone, pushing the stroller while taking pictures of the little girl on the people mover. Uh, I think that was just a little too much multi-tasking. They get to the end of the people mover. The mother just barely gets off the people mover with the stroller, still talking on the cell phone and taking pictures. Ok, I get that you want to take pictures of the kid, they do grow up way to fast, but HELLO - move out of the way - there are people coming behind you who will probably run you over!  I just had to shake my head. Some people are just in their own world.

So, in the other concourse I watched this one woman. She was professionally dressed, wearing a pencil skirt that really limited her stride. The other thing that limited her stride was the 4″ heels. My feet were aching just watching her walk on that hard concrete floor. That point was quite far from security. I would have thrown those shoes in the suitcase and put on my loafers.

So, thankfully my flight wasn’t way to delayed, even if I did get home at an obnoxious hour of the morning.

I have so much to catch up on this weekend. Traveling really seems to throw me off. I don’t seem to get anything done on the road. Which is kinda funny, when I was traveling full time I couldn’t get anything done on the weekend.  I haven’t done anything so far today, besides relax, watch some TV and surf. I’ll worry about it after lunch, and after some time in the pool. Yeah, that sounds like a plan!

Let’s Go Swimming!

Another Turtle

Originally uploaded by DivingDuo.

Actually, lets go diving!! The day was perfect; the sky was blue, with fluffy clouds, the water was fairly warm and the tanks were full. The only thing that would have made it even better was better vis on the bottom.

Being that it wasn’t lobster season and the forecasters were only calling for 2-4 ft waves, I thought I’d finally take my camera and housing out, the same housing that I threatened to drop over the side in Belize because the pictures weren’t coming out as good as the pictures I took with my Nikons V. I think I’ve figured out why, but that is another story.

Rex told us to meet him at 8:30. After the week I’d had, I was almost tempted to say sorry, maybe next time. I dearly wanted to sleep in, Jeff wanted to sleep in, but the urge to get back in the water overrode any sleep desires and the alarm was set.

Being that it was camera time, we went South to the shallow reef rich dive sites that the commercial boats hit. It felt so good to get back in the water and take pictures. I think I took almost 200 (thank goodness for digital), so far only 20 are posted. There may be a few more in there that are worth posting, but I got tired last night. Sun and water took their toll on me.

The first dive we saw lobster! I wish it was lobster season, every undercut had at least 3 bugs hiding out. They were big!! I never see bugs that big during season, unless they are egg-bearing females. I had one perfect shot lined up of two lobsters under a ledge, until a fish swam in front of me. Have you ever had a photo ruined due to a fish trying to get in the picture?

The second dive was to look for a goliath grouper. We didn’t find any, but we did find a turtle, and another turtle, and a third turtle and a fourth turtle. Jeff saw one that i didn’t, so that brought the total up to five turtles! Quite the crowd. Hawksbill, Loggerheads and a Green Turtle. The turtle in the picture is a Loggerhead.

The current picked up on the 2nd dive and we were just cruising along. I’m glad I didn’t have a macro kit on my camera, I wouldn’t have been able to slow down enough to take pictures of anything little.

What a great day. I can’t wait to go diving again.

I hate insomnia

General No Comments

Especially when I’ve taken ambien to combat that insomnia. And when I want to get up early because it’s the last day of my weekend and I have things to do. I lay down, relax and my mind starts racing and then my heart starts racing and then I’m no longer relaxed. It didn’t help that Jeff started fell asleep first and started snoring. It also doesn’t help that he has the fan on high. I like the white noise, but can’t stand having air blow in my face.

I think I’m starting to get snoozy. I think I can crawl back into bed and see if I’m snoozy enough. If now, I’ll be back out here starting my day really early!
