My Random Thoughts

Why don’t people listen? Jeff and I went shopping today. I was searching for a new DSL modem. I go into Office Depot, look, look, look and finally ask someone - do you have a DSL modem (not a cable modem, not just a modem, not a router, a DSL modem - not that I actually said that….). He takes me to the end of the aisle and points to a box, then he walks away as I start looking at it. He comes back to tell me they have a protection program available for it (yeah and he probably got a perk on selling it….). It was at that point I said, this is a cable modem. He said yes (like DUH), and I again ask about a DSL modem. His reply - I don’t sell those.  Ok, then why didn’t you tell me that when I first asked you?  I asked him if he knew who did sell them. No (of course not…..)

So - next stop - Circuit City. Surely they would have something. Afterall, they have their own install service. Jeff and I look in the networking and computer section. I don’t see anything. I ask someone, at least this guy told me no, they didn’t sell them. Jeff had asked someone different who told him - yes, they would be over there (you know, where the CABLE modems are). Right…..Funny thing - the guy Jeff asked worked in the computer department - the guy I asked didn’t…….And my friends wonder why I say I hate people.

Just to prove to myself that these people were crazy and I wasn’t, I went home and googled what I was looking for. What I found was that both places sell them, but none of the local stores had them. I could have gone to Coral Springs if I was really really really jonesing for it, but it really wasn’t that important. And for the love of customer service, will you just listen to what I’m asking for and give me an accurate answer?!??!?

We made it home from our Christmas Holiday! It was good to see everyone (and I mean everyone), but damn it’s good to be home.  I have pictures to edit and upload, groceries to buy, work to do, decorations to put away, presents to put away and thank you notes to create and write. I think I have a busy couple of days coming up.

The girls were happy to see us. I thought I would get a snub from them, but no, they were just as loving and excited as ever.  This morning they wanted to be fed early. They walked over us again and again and again. Life is back to normal. I’m starting on my 2008 goals/resolutions. So far, so good. Of course, it’s only 10am, but still, so far, so good!!  I used my new teapot to make my morning tea. WONDERFUL gift.

I guess I better finish my shopping list, take a shower and hit the grocery store. Vacation is over, back to the grind!

This is getting infuriating already. Yet another night of insomnia, or rather restless legs.

After quite a yummy bottle of greg norman estates wine, I got to bed. Jeff comes to bed. Oh, 30 minutes later my legs are twitching and I’m not sleeping. Glad I have my laptop. At least I have some quiet time in which to blog. Not that I want this quite time right now. I’d rather be sleeping. I guess I’ll nap on the plane. At least I hope I can nap on the plane!! I don’t want to deal with these legs on the plane.  I’m going to look forward to working out again. I think that’s part of the problem, no exercise this week.

In other news….had a good time with Barb and Don tonight. That was something I was looking forward to and a good time was had by all. I wish we lived closer. SIGH.

New Theme, new year, new look. Until I have the plan of what I want to design one like, I’m just going to use a pre-made one. It will keep me from making myself crazier than I already am! I guess I’ll just have to set up a test blog to test everything. Gee, just like real developing. OH BOY!!

I don’t know why i can’t sleep tonight, but it’s really annoying me. What’s even worse is that there is nothing on TV to watch.

I think I’ll try the sleep thing again.

So I want to know how long it took them to plan, practice and actually do that. What did the boss say? or was one of them the boss? Pretty good synchronization.

Codeulate posted about swearing in the comment of programs. I laughed. Knowing some of the issues my programmers have with code and debugging, I can imaging that some of these comments are in their code. I’m going to have to send this link to some of them. Ah the things we do when we don’t think anyone else will see.

I am tired today. I even got home early yesterday. I took a nap today, but everything still hurts. I don’t know what is up with that. I’m hope I feel better tomorrow. I have a lot of stuff I want to get finished!

It was a good week at work. I’m enjoying my job, but I need to figure out where I want to go next.

I have so many thoughts I want to write about, but when I sit down to actually write about them….they all fly out of my head. Maybe I need to get on them right away, huh? Yeah, might be a good idea.

Rather than making them resolutions, I have goals for the new year - and it’s never too early to start putting them into writing and into practice.

Fitness Goals:  5x Week Cardio, 3x Week Weight Training

Creativity Goals: Find online markets to submit work, edit novels

Educational Goals: Find and attend a photography class, attend ballroom dancing classes

Professional Goals: Complete CCP, attend professional organization chapter meetings at least 5x.

I think those are pretty reasonable and achievable goals. Here’s to 2008
